Police urgently searching for family of woman hit by two cars

Police are urgently searching for the family of an elderly woman who was hit by two cars.

Merseyside Police were called to an incident on Market Street in Hoylake, Wirral, just before 6.45pm on Wednesday, January 11, to reports a woman had been hit by two vehicles. It was reported the woman was first hit by a Saab traveling westbound on the road, before being hit by a Ford Fiesta traveling on the eastbound side of the road.

Police have now named the woman as Ana Marcroft, 83, of Market Street and are asking for help to find her family.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "Liverpool and Wirral Coroner's Office is appealing for help to find the family of a lady from Hoylake who has died. Ana Marcroft, 83 years, of Market Street, sadly died on 11th January after being involved in a road traffic collision in Hoylake.

"Anyone who knows the next-of-kin of Ms Marcroft is asked to contact Coroners officer Sophie Davies on 0151 351 0933 or email sophie.davies@liverpool.gov.uk"

Ana was a "well-loved character" who would visit the Black Toad on Market Street, just down the street from the location of the incident, once a week.

Staff at the Black Toad told the ECHO: "We knew her by Ana, I didn't know her second name. She'd come in once a week. She'd been coming in since we opened, about three and a half years ago.

"She was just such a well-loved character, and just a lovely woman. She was just really friendly, she loved chatting away at the bar.

"Ana always loved to put a smile on everyone's face when she came in. She loved to talking about the Royal family and she'd always be sharing her political opinions with everyone, but in a funny way.

"I know she had a boyfriend over the way in Liverpool. She wasn't here that night. I don't know where she'd been."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, by email at sciu@merseyside.police.uk or via @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, with reference 23000033404.
