The Govindapura police unearthed two drug rings operating out of the area and recovered huge caches of narcotics from the arrested: ₹37 crore worth of synthetic drugs from one ring and ₹1.45 crore (290 kg) of ganja from another.

Acting on a tip-off that a youth was selling narcotics near a water tank in HBR Layout, the police conducted a surprise raid and arrested him. During interrogation, he provided information that led to the arrest of two drug peddlers from other States. With the information provided, the police recovered methaqualone worth ₹35 crore, 6.5 kg of MDMA, 600 Tramadol tablets, and 75 gm of cocaine.

The arrested have been identified as Rajeet Bhanu Gupta, 24, who hails from Maharashtra, and Andran Gomes, 59, and S. Rajesh, 35, from Tamil Nadu. “The ring had a loyal clientele including entertainment professionals, software engineers, and students. We are probing the source of the narcotics,” said police.

In another case, acting on a tip-off, Govindapura police arrested three youths who were allegedly dealing in ganja. During the raid police team recovered 290 kg of ganja worth ₹1.45 crore stored in an under-construction shed. The arrested have been identified as Samarakara, 22, Ramesh Khemundi, 25 and Mangul Sisa, 20. All three hail from Odisha, from where the ganja was also sourced from, sources said.
