More police will be patrolling the area around a luxury Salford block of flats which residents say is ‘really, really high for crime’.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News yesterday , neighbours say they have decided to leave the Local Crescent apartments, on Hulme Street, due to fears over crime. They have also complained over parking issues and frequent lift breakdowns.
Developers Salboy have told the MEN that the majority of tenants are ‘very happy’ to be living there. UrbanBubble, who manage the block, added that they are working on maintenance issues, which has been hampered by global supply chain issues.

Now, following the concerns of residents raised by this title, Greater Manchester Police say they are going to boost patrols in the area. Chief Inspector Paul Coburn, from GMPs Neighbourhood and Partnerships team, has also said the force has seen a downturn in the number of theft and robbery offences in the area over the last few months, even before this latest intervention.
“We are aware of concerns from local residents regarding the safety of the area surrounding Hulme Street,” he said in a statement. “In response, I have arranged for this area to be part of our daily patrols moving forward, which will see an increased officer presence in the area.
“Our PCSOs will speak with the management of the local apartment blocks with a view to discussing these concerns with residents and what we can do to help. If you see our officers on patrol, please do go and speak to them if you have any questions and they will be happy to assist.
“I’d like to reassure local residents that in recent months criminal offences in the area relating to robbery and theft have been minimal. However, this is going off reports we have received, so I’d urge anyone who has been a victim of crime in the area to please make sure you report it to us, so we can investigate and prevent any further incidents”.
