Police raced to a busy main road after reports of a man with a gun. Officers were called to Bury New Road in Prestwich earlier this afternoon, where they arrested a man on suspicion of carrying an imitation firearm in a public.
No-one was injured and Greater Manchester Police has said there is 'no wider threat to the public'. Residents reported a significant police presence as officers responded to the incident, near to the Longfield Suite and the surrounding shops.

A spokesman for the force said: "At around 1pm this afternoon (Saturday 7 January 2023) Greater Manchester responded to reports of an incident on Bury New Road, Prestwich. A 43-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of carrying an imitation firearm in a public and is currently in custody for questioning.
"There is no wider threat to the public and no injuries have been reported."
