Police searched tracks after a "near miss" closed the rail line between Nottingham and Mansfield. East Midlands Railway (EMR) reported a person had been hit by a train in Nottinghamshire between Nottingham and Mansfield last night (December 8), but police have now stated they believe the incident was a near miss.
As a result of the reported collision, the line between Nottingham and Mansfield was closed for more than an hour. This disrupted EMR services on the Nottingham-Mansfield-Worksop route.
Emergency services and Network Rail sent teams to the site, with a statement on EMR's website saying: "Sadly, we have received reports of a person being hit by a train, between Nottingham and Mansfield. This is disrupting our services on the Nottingham-Mansfield-Worksop route.

"Lines were held while officers searched the area, however no-one was located. The incident is believed to have been a near miss."
