Police seek help identifying man who may have information about stolen Dallas Zoo monkeys

DALLAS — Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a man believed to have information about two monkeys reportedly taken from their enclosure at the Dallas Zoo Monday.

The department shared a photo Tuesday of a man seen on surveillance video walking through the zoo in a navy blue hoodie and black pants and said detectives are looking to speak with him, but added “he is not a person of interest currently.”

Two emperor tamarin monkeys were unaccounted for in their habitat Monday morning, and zoo spokeswoman Kari Streiber said it was immediately “clear the habitat had been intentionally compromised.” According to police, the habitat had been cut.

After an hours-long search, Streiber said police had “reason to believe the tamarins were taken.”

As of Tuesday morning, the monkeys had not been found.

The zoo was closed Monday due to inclement weather and isn’t expected to reopen until Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edwin Saracay at 214-671-4509 or Edwin.saracay@dallaspolice.gov and refer to case No. 017547-2023.
