Police arrest man after woman's body found in Melbourne CBD apartment

Police have arrested a man following the suspicious death of a woman in the Melbourne CBD.

The 22-year-old Huntingdale man was arrested in Preston, in Melbourne's north, on Thursday and police said he was assisting with their enquiries.

On December 27, about 8:40pm, emergency services were called to a La Trobe Street apartment building after a woman was found by her friends.

Paramedics attended the scene but the woman, a 31-year-old Chinese national, was already dead.

Police believe the man and the victim were known to each other, and are not looking for anyone else in connection to the death.

Prior to the arrest, Victoria Police had released the man's name and photo with the hope the public could help locate him.

Anyone with information about the woman's death can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
