Police Scotland appoints first female chief constable as Jo Farrell takes up post

Police Scotland has made history by appointing its first-ever female Chief Constable.

Jo Farrell will be taking over the position following Sir Iain Livingstone QPM's decision to retire from the role in August.

Farrell is currently the Chief Constable of Durham Constabulary and was selected to take on the new role following a robust assessment and selection process carried out by the Scottish Police Authority.
