Investigations are underway after a “gruesome” crime scene was discovered near Sydney airport, with the body of a woman found wrapped in plastic on the side of a footpath. Police believe she was “more than likely” murdered.
Discovered by a member of the public, NSW Police have reported that the woman’s body was found wrapped in plastic, hidden in some bushes on Foreshore Road near Sydney airport.
The body was said to be in a “severe state of decomposition”.
The incident is being treated as a homicide by detectives, who suspect the corpse had been there for “weeks, if not months”, before being found by a jogger on Monday morning at 7:30am.
Homicide Squad commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty called the crime a “very tragic situation” and described the scene as a “gruesome discovery”.
“A female has lost her life and been dumped on the side of the road,” said Doherty.
“There’s someone’s loved one that doesn’t know yet that their loved one has not only been killed, but most likely murdered.”
Both the identity of the woman, and time passed since her body was placed there are currently unknown.
The detective called for anyone with information regarding the crime to come forward, and also asked for assistance from anyone who has a missing loved one at the moment.
“The starting point for us is to have the victim identified. That would help us then establish timeframes, timelines, known associates, and who the victim is — what’s the story and how she came to be dumped on the side of the road,” he said.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online here, or call 1800 333 000.
