Police release last known image of girl, 14, missing for over a week as desperate search ramps up

UPDATE: Katelan Coates has now been found safe and well, West Yorkshire Police said.

A 14-year-old girl who has been missing for more than a week has been spotted in Greater Manchester, police have revealed.

Katelan Coates, who went missing from home in Todmorden on Tuesday, March 28, was last seen outside the Todmorden High School in her school uniform. 'Extensive searches' to find her have been ongoing ever since, with her family desperate for her to come home.

In an update issued this afternoon, West Yorkshire Police released a CCTV picture showing Katelan's last confirmed movements. The image shows her getting off the 591 bus from Todmorden as it arrives at the terminal in Croft Street in Burnley at about 9.15am on March 28.

Police said the teenager left the bus in the direction of the town centre. Officers believe she has since been seen in Stretford in Trafford.

Officers from the Calderdale District are now working with Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Police to find Katelan, who is 'not in any trouble' with her loved ones. The teenager is described as being around 5ft 5in tall and of medium build.

She was last seen wearing her school uniform – a black blazer, a blue and black tie and black leggings. Detective Chief Inspector Mike Cox, of Calderdale Police, said: "Extensive searches have been ongoing to locate Katelan and we continue to appeal to anyone who can help us find her to contact us.

"Katelan’s parents are of course very worried for her and desperately want her home. They want to stress she is not in any trouble and should not be afraid of getting in touch with the police or them.

"As time goes by we clearly grow more concerned for Katelan’s welfare, as we would for any 14-year-old child away from home for so long.

"I would ask anyone who can assist our enquiries to contact West Yorkshire Police via 101 or use the Live Chat facility at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contactus, quoting log 0509 of 28 March. "
