Police have confirmed a body recovered from a creek east of Melbourne earlier today belongs to a 57-year-old Traralgon woman.
The body was found in Traralgon Creek near where a person and a dog were spotted being swept away in floodwaters yesterday.
Floral tributes and social media posts identify the woman as Traralgon grandmother Mari Cao.
"We will miss you forever," a card left by a bridge over Traralgon Creek by devastated family members, said.
Police earlier cordoned off the area around Whittakers Road in Traralgon and the Search and Rescue Unit was deployed to coordinate the recovery of the body.
Ms Cao’s dog, Roxy, has not been found.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Yesterday, a witness told police a person rolled up their trousers on the bank of Traralgon Creek, near Whittakers Road, about 5:30am before being swept away with a dog.
Police searched the area but were unable to confirm the report and had not received any reports of people missing.
Authorities released CCTV footage of the pair in hopes of identifying the person.
'This is as wet as ever'
The flooding along the Moe River at Darnum in its catchment was mostly affecting farming areas.
Darnum dairy farmer Eddie Jefford said the flood was unlike anything he had experienced.
"This is extremely wet; we've been wet before but this is as wet as ever," Mr Jefford said.
The river exceeded the major flood level on Monday morning and has since been falling.
SES regional agency commander Russell Wilmot said Boolarra South had recorded 100 millimetres of rain and 94mm at Yarragon.
