Six people were arrested in Adelaide's south after a police pursuit involving an allegedly stolen car overnight, hours before dozens of cars were damaged in city streets.
In the earlier incident, police said they spotted a stolen red Ford sedan just after midnight in Adelaide's CBD, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over.
Officers then briefly pursued the car and spotted it again as it passed through Goodwood, then South Road and finally the Southern Expressway.
It then stopped on the Southern Expressway just south of Seacombe Road, at Sturt, where six occupants were arrested.
The five men and one woman — aged between 21 and 40, from Adelaide, regional towns and the Northern Territory — are facing various charges.
Police allege the driver returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.138.
"The driver — he was a 31-year-old man from no fixed address — but he's been charged with engaging in a police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed, as well as drink driving," Senior Constable Kimberley Broad told ABC Radio Adelaide.
"The five passengers have been charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle."
Police said the car was stolen from Adelaide's CBD on Monday morning.
Three of the men are expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
Dozens of cars damaged in CBD
Meanwhile, police said about 60 cars were damaged in the Adelaide CBD overnight.
Police are investigating after they were contacted by multiple people reporting damage to their cars just after 3am.
Officers said that, when they arrived and searched nearby streets, they found damaged cars on Wright, Gouger, Pitt, Waymouth, Mill, Coglin, Young, Eliza and Morphett streets, as well as in car parks.
One person reported that three of their car's tyres had been slashed.
Police said CCTV showed a man approaching one of the cars just before 2:30am and then appearing "to stab the driver's side tyre".
They believe more people may still discover damage this morning.
