Police are asking for the public's help after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Sydney's west.

The man in his 50s was crossing Sackville Street in Fairfield when he was hit about 6am on Monday.

The car, which was travelling south, did not stop after the collision, police say.

Paramedics tried to revive the man but he died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and police are urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward.
