A MAJOR police operation is underway in Greenock following the discovery of the body of a man.

Detectives, uniformed officers and a forensics team are carrying out intensive investigations at the property on Antigua Street.

Officers were called to the area early this morning and a large cordon remains in place.

A section of Hope Street – between its junctions with Lynedoch Street and Dellingburn Street – is also closed off.

Uniform officers, CID and forensics teams remain in the area, with ambulance crews also responding.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.05am on Thursday, 21 September, 2023, police were called to a property at Antigua Street, Greenock, following the discovery of the body of a man.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
