Police probe sexual assault during pro-Palestine protest in central London

Police have launched an appeal over a sexual assault at a pro-Palestine rally in central London earlier this month.

Detectives said a woman reported being sexually assaulted outside a money exchange shop in the West End’s Coventry Street at 2.50pm on May 18.

At the time, thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters were marching to reiterate calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The demo marked the 76th anniversary of what Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, the mass displacement of people after the creation of Israel in 1948.

Officers said the suspect in the attack is thought to have been wearing a light blue shirt with a navy zip jacket.

He was bald, clean shaven and wore thick rimmed black glasses.

A spokesperson said a 69-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information or relevant footage is being asked to call 101 or post on X @MetCC quoting 01/358371/24.

To remain anonymous call the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
