Police are investigating the reason a golden eagle was recently found dead in the Glen Quaich area of Perthshire.
Officers attended the scene to remove the body of the bird of prey after receiving a report of the find last month and enquiries are now ongoing.
Police Scotland said in a statement released last week a post mortem examination will be carried out on the protected animal to establish its cause of death.
A spokesperson said: “Raptor persecution is a wildlife crime priority and Police Scotland is committed to investigating any criminality relating to the death of such a raptor.
“Officers are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them via 101, quoting incident number 0835 of April 28, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
