Police officer dad-of-three was just on his way home from work - he never made it

Tributes have been paid to a police officer who was killed in a crash on the way home from work.

Inspector Gareth Earp died at the scene following a two-car collision on the A470 between Llangurig and Rhayader at approximately 4.50pm on Wednesday, June 29. The force has said that Insp Earp, who leaves behind his wife, Tamsin, and three sons, Ethan, Theo and Joel, was a "well-liked and respected officer, having served with the force for 21 years".

The male driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to hospital where he remains The collision, involving a black VW Golf and a black Range Rover Sport, is now being investigated.

Insp Earp was also the chairman of Rhayader Town FC who have paid tribute to him, reports WalesOnline. They said "Today we woke up to the tragic news that our chairman Gareth Earp has lost his life.

"The town is numb, we are all devastated and the town is mourning. We offer our thoughts, prayers and strength to Graham, Mair, Tamsin and the boys we will forever be by your side."

Neigbouring club Builth Wells FC said: "Our thoughts today are with our local neighbouring club - Rhayader FC who are sadly remembering their chairman Gareth Earp who passed away yesterday. Gareth had been part of local football for many years and has played with and against current members of Builth FC."

Police are asking anyone who witnessed either vehicle in the run up to the collision or anyone who has dashcam footage that could help officers with their investigation to get in touch.
