Police have launched an investigation into an alleged racist incident during Barnet’s match against Stockport in the National League at the Hive last Saturday.
A Stockport player alleged he was racially abused by a member of Barnet staff during the Bees’ 5-0 defeat and the Football Association are also investigating.
The Met said this morning: “An allegation was passed to police by a third party organisation. Enquiries are ongoing. At this stage there have been no arrests.”
Barnet said in a statement: “We will continue to work closely with the FA and police, with further updates provided when necessary.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, Barnet claimed the incident had been investigated by the club’s safety office and police at the time, saying: “A Senior Police Officer at the scene confirmed there was no allegation or substance for a criminal investigation to take place”.
Following the match, Barnet captain Jamie Turley and the member of staff at the centre of the allegation were suspended by the club on full pay following a confrontation at the training ground on Monday.
The club is investigating the bust-up and Turley remains unavailable for Saturday’s match against Aldershot.
On Thursday, the Barnet squad and backroom staff met with chairman Tony Kleanthous and representatives from the PFA and Kick It Out for crunch talks, with players unhappy at Turley’s treatment, having considered refusing to play Tuesday night’s match against Southend without him.
