Police launch appeal for information after pensioner dies in Pollok car crash

Police have launched an appeal for information from the public after a pensioner died in a car crash today.

The fatal crash took place in the Pollok area of Glasgow around noon on Saturday, 5 March.

A silver Land Rover Defender was being driven west on Cowglen Road when it overturned near the junction with Peat Road not far from the Silverburn Shopping Centre.

Emergency services attended and a 75-year-old man, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old woman, a passenger, was taken to hospital for treatment of a hand injury.

Both Cowglen Road and Peat Road were closed while crash investigation work was carried out and reopened around 3.55pm.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans, of the Road Policing Department, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“There were a number of people around as it was a busy Saturday afternoon and I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.

“In addition I am asking anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist with our enquiries to also get in touch.”

Anyone who can help should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1442 of Saturday, 5 March, 2022.
