Police knife search at Nottingham play area after large groups congregate

Police carried out a knife search at a Nottingham play area following reports of large groups congregating. Officers based at Radford Road Police Station swept for weapons at nearby Chard Street Play Area on Monday, November 14.

It came as part of an effort by Nottinghamshire Police to target public spaces where knives may have been hidden or discarded, and is part of the nationwide Operation Sceptre. North Gate was also searched.

The force said some offenders hide weapons in easily accessible locations to try to avoid being caught in possession. Sergeant Mark Southgate, of the City Central neighbourhood team, said in the past officers had found weapons hidden in hedgerows and behind walls.
