Police issue update after boy, 6, suffers serious injuries in crash

Police have issued an update after a young boy suffered serious injuries in a crash.

Police said they were called to reports of a silver BMW which had collided with a parked car - a blue Citroen Berlingo - at around 9pm on Sunday, April 10 on Thornton Road in Ellesmere Port. Emergency services rushed the six-year-old boy to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

A second child, a six-month-old girl, was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a precaution. Both children were passengers in the silver BMW car.

The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink-driving and drug-driving. In an update today, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said the 30-year-old woman who was arrested following the crash has been released on conditional bail.

The woman is due to report back to officers on Thursday, May 5. In a previous statemen t a Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "At 9.17pm on Sunday, April 10 police were called to reports of a collision on Thornton Road, Ellesmere Port. Officers attended the scene and found that a silver BMW had collided with parked car - a blue Citroen Berlingo.

"The driver of the car, a 30-year-old local woman, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving and drug driving. A six month-old baby girl and a six-year-old boy, who were both passengers in the vehicle, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

"The six-year-old was subsequently taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries. The baby was taken to the Countess of Chester as a precaution. The woman is currently in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman previously said: "We have taken two patients to hospital. A child was taken to Alder Hey with serious injuries. Another patient was taken to Chester Hospital."

One fire engine from Ellesmere Port and another from Powey Lane attended the incident. Firefighters provided first aid to "two casualties" before handing them over to paramedics to be taken to hospital, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.
