AN online craze which appears to show a Cat in the Hat figure lurking in streets across the UK, has spread to Glasgow, with claims the person has been spotted in the city.
Videos which have been posted to TikTok and other social media platforms alleged to show the Dr Seuss character standing in shadows and gloomy streets across the country.
Many worried residents of Glasgow shared their alarm at a number of videos which claim to spot the creepy feline.
One woman, in a video posted to TikTok, said: "I kept hearing all these things about a Cat in the Hat guy. I was like 'whit are you even talking about."
"So I went and searched it last night on TikTok and this guy dressed as the Cat in the Hat is going about all different areas, all different schemes and walking about the streets.
"My son said, 'mum he's in Drumchapel' and I'm like 'no he's not'.
"I was sitting and scrolling going 'he's pure fake, what are you talking about'.
"People are putting up that he is in Drumchapel.
"So I've got up this morning and literally just checked my camera and he's in my driveway."
Another video circulating social media alleges that the figure was spotted near to Tesco in Maryhill.
Following the fear from residents in Ireland, where this apparent craze has originated, An Garda Síochána Wexford released a comment to help quell the fears.
Their statement reveals that theses "sightings" are just AI generated content.
The force said: "In an unusual turn of events we are hearing a lot about an elusive Dr Seuss character doing the rounds online, apparently causing havoc in neighbourhoods and towns across the country.
"Fortunately, we can rule out the issue, which is essentially an AI prompt that places the character into images/videos of familiar places.
"To be clear, the Cat in the Hat was not in your driveway while you were out and he is not currently hiding out in Curracloe."
Police Scotland has been contacted for further comment.
