Police investigation launched after body of man found in east London canal

Police have launched an investigation after a man’s body was spotted in an east London canal by a member of the public.

Officers were scrambled to the canal at Lea Bridge Road where the body was recovered by marine divers,

A police statement said: “At 10:40hrs on Sunday, 11 June police were called to Lea Bridge Road, E5 by a member of the public who had seen what they believed to be a body in the canal.

“Officers, including the police marine unit, responded and carried out a search of the water.

“At 12:54hrs, the body of a man was found and recovered from the water.”

His death is being treated as unexpected but initial enquiries suggest the circumstances are not suspicious.

Officers are working to inform the man’s next of kin.
