Police investigation into Scottish National Party finances costs over £2 million

Police Scotland has spent more than £2m on the investigation into the SNP’s finances - (Jane Barlow/PA Wire)

Police Scotland has incurred costs exceeding £2m in its ongoing investigation into the Scottish National Party’s finances, a probe that has already led to high-profile arrests.

Operation Branchform, launched in 2021 to scrutinise the SNP’s funding, had accumulated a bill of £2,173,089 by 30 April, according to figures released in response to a freedom of information request. This sum does not account for pension contributions or expenses accrued by the Crown Office.
