Police investigating allegation fan hit Kyler Murray during Cardinals' celebrations

Police in Las Vegas have confirmed they're investigating an incident from the Arizona Cardinals' overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Quarterback Kyler Murray, who starred for the visitors in their 29-23 success, was allegedly struck by a fan in the stands as he celebrated with supporters. The Bedford-born star was high-fiving front-row spectators at the Allegiant Stadium when a fan seemingly reached out and allegedly hit him with an open hand.

Murray appeared taken aback by the apparent strike, although did not seem to be injured or cut. The 25-year-old then tried to help officials identify the alleged culprit.

According to NFL.com, Officer Larry Hadfield, a Las Vegas police spokesman, confirmed that a battery complaint was made about 6:30 pm at the venue of the game. The report however, was not immediately available.

Hadfield did not name Murray as the reporting person, but confirmed the allegation was that "a spectator at the stadium struck a professional football player." He added that a suspect had not been immediately identified and that an investigation was ongoing.

The Cardinals or Murray are yet to publicly comment on the incident. Cardinals spokesman Mark Dalton was asked to comment on Monday, but declined.

The NFL clash had ended in dramatic fashion following Byron Murphy's late fumble. Murray, a Pro Bowl player in both 2019 and 2020, had been one of the stars of the show.

He led the Cardinals to two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions in the final eight minutes to take the clash into overtime. It was the side's first win since Murray signed a new five-year deal worth more than £200 million.

Murray was the No 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. The Oklahoma College graduate opted for football despite also having an opportunity to play Major League Baseball.
