Police believe a shooting at the exterior of a house where a woman and her two children were inside in Central West New South Wales was a targeted attack.
Shots were allegedly fired at a house near Bathurst shortly after 9pm yesterday, with several bullets hitting the front of the brick home.
Chifley Police District Superintendent Bob Noble said it was a very serious offence.
The 40-year-old woman, two-year-old boy, and six-month-old girl were not injured but were reportedly distressed by the incident.
"It's very fortunate no-one was injured," Superintendent Noble said.
The family have been moved from the Bannerman Crescent address.
"It's very out of character for this part of New South Wales for something like this to occur," he said.
Police said they discovered a black Toyota Kluger, which was reported stolen in January, burnt out in a nearby street which will be examined for potential links.
The ballistics team is examining bullet holes in the front of the house and shell casings.
A person of interest has not yet been identified but Superintendent Noble said they have developed a number of leads.
"We certainly have spoken to quite a lot of people in the area and people have been quite forthcoming," he said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Bathurst police.
