Police investigate alleged roadside attack

Police are appealing for public assistance following a serious alleged assault at a Lake Macquarie roadside.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Frederick Street and Main Road at Glendale about 5.40pm on Saturday following reports of an alleged attack.

Paramedics treated a 54-year-old man at the scene. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District are investigating the matter and on Thursday launched an appeal for information on social media.

Police have been told the 54-year-old was sitting in his vehicle - a white Toyota Camry sedan - which was parked on Frederick Street, when a man driving a dark coloured SUV stopped behind the Camry, exited the vehicle, and assaulted him before driving away.

The alleged attacker is described as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance and may have been with a woman at the time.

Investigators would like to speak with four men who rendered first aid to the driver of the Camry until paramedics arrived.

Detectives also believe the occupants of a maroon Mitsubishi Pajero witnessed the incident and are appealing for them to come forward with any information may have.

Tips can be passed on to police through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
