Police incident in Bristol city centre after concern for woman's welfare

Emergency services were called to the scene of a police incident after a key Bristol route was closed off earlier today.

Police were called to Colston Street in the city centre at 11.15am on Thursday morning after a report regarding concern for the welfare of a woman.

Both police and ambulance crews attended the incident whereby the road was closed at around 11.40am.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: "At 11.15am today (Thursday 10 February) we received a report regarding concern for the welfare of a woman on Colston Street, Bristol.

“A road closure was put in place while emergency services attended the incident.

“The woman has been brought to safety and the road has now been re-opened.”

Traffic reporting system Inrix stated that slow traffic building was in the area, with Colston Street shut both ways from B4051 Upper Maudlin Street to Lower Park Row earlier today.

The road reopened shortly before 12.30pm where traffic flow returned to normal.
