Police hunting a gunman in Lancashire have tracked down the car used by the suspect more than 60 miles away in Tameside. Detectives are investigating a shooting in Heysham, near Morecambe, on Monday.
Lancashire Police says the offender arrived in Heysham with another person in a red Skoda Fabia. Officers have since tracked down the car in Droylsden, and crime scene investigators have been working in the area to gather evidence.
The force was called at around 4pm on Monday with reports that someone had approached an address on Heysham Road before shooting at the front door and fleeing the scene. Thankfully, nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing in both Heysham and Droylsden.
Detectives are trying to identify the two people who were in the red Skoda and anyone with information about who they might be is urged to contact Lancashire Police. Det Supt Becky Smith, of Lancashire Police, said: “We know this incident has caused concern in the community but we would like to reassure residents that incidents such as this are very rare and we are taking it extremely seriously and have a dedicated team of officers working tirelessly to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We know [on Monday] people in the area had a lot of questions about the incident, and that there was a good deal of speculation on social media. However, we are now in a position to reassure you that we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.
“We are also appealing for information about the incident. In particular we would like to hear from anybody who saw the red Skoda Fabia approaching or leaving Heysham Road at the time of the incident or anywhere else in the Heysham/Morecambe area towards the motorway network, anybody who was in the area and may have caught the car on dashcam or other footage, or anybody with information about who the two men in the car might have been.
“It’s vital that we identify those responsible as soon as possible so I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us straight away." Anybody with information can call Lancashire Police on 101, quoting log 397 of August 1, or contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
