A boy has been arrested after a girl was stabbed at a school near Norwich.
Police said the 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent shortly after the teenage girl was knifed on Wednesday morning.
Officers were called to Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form on Laundry Lane at 10.24am following reports that a student had been stabbed.
Pupils were placed under lockdown across the school buildings as a result of the incident.
The victim was rushed to hospital with minor injuries.
Officers launched a search for a suspect, and later arrested the teenage boy, who was taken to a police station for questioning.
Emergency services remained at the scene on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Broad Horizons Education Trust, which runs Thorpe St Andrew, said in a statement: “We have clear procedures in place and our staff acted swiftly, with the whole school going into lockdown, with children staying in their classroom with their teacher.
“One of our students was injured and is now being treated in hospital for minor injuries.
“This has obviously been a distressing experience for our whole community and our focus now is on making sure all students feel supported as we begin to understand what happened.”
The school, which was rated good in its 2025 Ofsted inspection, is an 11-to-18 mixed secondary school that also includes a sixth form.
Alice MacDonald, the Labour MP for Norwich North, called the reports “incredibly serious and deeply alarming”.
She said in a post on X: “Immediately, we need to give the police time to ensure that everyone at the school is safe. My thoughts are with all of them and their families, especially the victim who has been taken to hospital.”

Norfolk Constabulary said this incident is not believed to be linked to a hate crime reported at the same school last week. It follows reports of allegations of antisemitic chanting during a football match involving a Jewish school.
The force said in a statement: “Police were called to a school on Laundry Lane, Thorpe St Andrew at 10.24am this morning following reports that a teenage girl had been stabbed.
“Emergency services attended the scene including fire and ambulance. The victim has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“A 16-year-old boy has been arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
“This incident is not believed to be linked to a hate crime reported at the same school last week.”
