Police helicopter deployed in Midlothian as 'vulnerable' man reported missing

Police in Midlothian deployed the force helicopter during a search for a "vulnerable" missing man over the weekend.

Police Scotland's Air Unit account on social media uploaded an image of their radar while tracing the man in the Gorebridge area and said after setting off, he was quickly traced.

After the man was spotted on their radar, they alerted nearby officers who traced him, saying they had already carried out "lengthy" searches before requesting for air support.

The police helicopter is often drafted in to assist with missing person searches due to their high-tech equipment and night vision detection. In the image uploaded on Sunday, July 9, the missing man, along with local officers, were picked up on the thermal imaging camera.

Just last month a search was conducted around the Arthur's Seat area as locals were awoken by a huge spotlight scouring the popular beauty spot at night while searching for a missing person.

Taking to Twitter, Police Scotland said: "Assisted @PSOSMidlothian with a search for a vulnerable male in the Gorebridge area. The helicopter quickly located the male and talked local stations on to his location after some lengthy searches. Great teamwork was involved in finding this male."
