Police helicopter called out as youths chased for miles - before dog stopped them in their tracks

Officers have recovered a reportedly stolen motorbike after a lengthy chase through Trafford this afternoon. Greater Manchester Police says three arrests have been made following the pursuit earlier today (May 14).

The force says the motorbike had been stolen by robbery. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large police presence as the pursuit made its way through parts of Trafford.

Officers first followed the bike through Sale before heading out to Stretford and then returning to Sale, where it was abandoned. A police helicopter was called out to join the pursuit, which already involved traffic officers and a special response team, while GMP's police dog unit also joined the operation.

Residents on social media described seeing 'three youths' being chased on streets through Sale at around 12.40pm, before noticing the police helicopter overhead. One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News : "Looks like the cops arrested at least two lads in Priory Woods off Dane Road in Sale just now after a bit of a chase.

"The helicopter was up and loads of police cars in Dane Road." In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for GMP Traffic said the offenders were eventually chased down by police dog Bren, before finally being arrested.

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for further comment.
