Police give major update on A66 crash and deadly house fire in Middlesbrough

  • Cleveland Police have confirmed that a house fire in Middlesbrough and a fatal crash on the A66 are not being treated as linked.
  • The house fire on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of a seven-year-old girl and her aunt.
  • Seven people died in the A66 collision last Saturday, including serving Cleveland Police officers PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.
  • Assistant Chief Constable Dave Sutherland stated that the force is receiving additional resources from other northern forces and the National Crime Agency to maintain public safety.
  • Police expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the local community following the two tragic events.
