Kylo, a Portland Police Bureau K-9 working his final shift before retirement, was killed during an officer-involved shooting while apprehending a murder suspect.
The shooting occurred following a multi-agency manhunt for a suspect involved in a fatal disturbance discovered on Thursday morning.
Gunfire was exchanged during the apprehension, leaving the suspect dead at the scene and Kylo fatally injured despite being rushed to an emergency veterinarian.
Kylo served six years with the police department and was honored with a police procession following his death.
Kylo is the second police dog to die in the Portland area within a week, following the unexpected death of Gresham Police K-9 Leni on September 21.
