Police cordon off Glasgow city centre areas amid ongoing incidents near Central Station

Police have confirmed that three arrests have been made following two separate incidents in the city centre this morning.

The first incident took place early this morning on Argyle Street, near to the Four Corners area. Eyewitnesses reported that there was a large police presence under the Central Station Bridge, with images shared online showing police cordoning off a significant area.

Police Scotland confirmed that a 35-year-old male had been arrested in connection.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a disturbance on Argyle Street, Glasgow, around 5.45am on Thursday, 18 August, 2022.

“A 30-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance.

“A 35-year-old man has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The same man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”

Police also confirmed that two males have been arrested in a separate incident, on Gordon Street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2am on Thursday, 18 August, 2022, officers were called to a report of two men having been assaulted on Gordon Street, Glasgow.

“A 20-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The other man did not require hospital treatment.

“Two men, aged 24 and 33, were arrested in connection with the incident.”

The two incidents do not appear to be linked.
