Police confirm human remains uncovered in Victoria's high country are Russell Hill and Carol Clay

Victoria Police has confirmed human remains uncovered in November last year are those of missing campers Carol Clay and Russell Hill.

Their remains were discovered in bushland near Dargo, in remote high country in the state's east.

The campers went missing from their remote Wonnangatta Valley campsite in March, 2020, and a high-profile search for them ensued with investigators appealing to the public for information multiple times.

On November 30 last year, police announced human remains had been found after dozens of police officers spent days scouring bushland in difficult terrain.

As a result of forensic testing, Victoria's coroner has now advised police that the remains belonged to the pair.

Pilot Greg Lynn, 55, was charged with two counts of murder on November 25 last year after an investigation into the pair's disappearance and is due to face court again in May.

Mr Lynn remains in custody and is yet to enter a plea.

Police said they would not provide further comment while the matter remains before the courts.
