Police comb scene after man shot multiple times

Officers are carrying out extensive searches after a man was shot in Liverpool yesterday.

The victim, in his 20s, went to Royal Liverpool University Hospital with serious injuries after being shot in the chest and arms.

Police have since confirmed while his injuries are described as 'serious' he is in a stable condition.

Initial enquires found that the man was shot on The Green, in Broadgreen, close to a small field and walking path known as Rocket Green, at around 9pm on Sunday, January 16.

A police search team has been spotted this morning doing a detailed search of the patch of grass.

Two large sheets of blue tarpaulin can be seen on the field which is between Queens Drive and The Green.

As well as the main shooting scene, on The Green, officers also had cordons in place on Queen’s Drive, Domville Road and Binns Road.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or with any information is asked to contact the police.

This shooting is the second to take place in Merseyside in 2022.

The first happened outside The Netherton pub, on Church Road, Litherland at around 7.10pm on Saturday, January 1.

A 33-year-old was shot as he reportedly got into a car in the pub's car park.

He suffered serious injuries. There is no indication that the shootings are related.

Detective chief inspector Rachel Wilson from Merseyside police 's firearms investigation team said: "We are in the early stages of an investigation into a shooting in Broadgreen yesterday which has left a man seriously injured.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the Broadgreen area yesterday evening who witnessed the incident, or saw anything or anyone suspicious to come forward, as any information you have could be vital to our enquiries.


"Similarly if you were driving at the Broadgreen end of Queen’s Drive and have dashcam footage please review it and let us know.

"In recent months we have seen a downturn in shootings on Merseyside.

"To have such success, it is absolutely vital that we get all information from those communities who feel the impact of gun crime, so we can bring those responsible to justice.

"Speak to us directly or anonymously and we will take swift action to remove dangerous weapons and those who use them from our streets."
