Police caught a pedestrian hitchhiking at the side of Scotland's busiest road in broad-daylight. Officers clocked the punter on their dashcam on the M8 near Edinburgh yesterday.
They were discovered walking on the other side of the outer crash barrier on the section of the motorway linking the capital to West Lothian. Road police officers uploaded the picture of the pedestrian wearing a huge backpack as they issued an urgent plea for people not to walk on or near a motorway.
It is understood officers stopped the person and picked them up to avoid a potentially serious incident. Taking to Twitter, officers say they were advised of the pedestrian's presence before they rushed to the scene - which took them away from their normal patrols.
A statement read: "Edinburgh Road Police had to collect and advise this pedestrian not to hitchhike along the M8, taking us away from our normal patrols.
"Please: 1. Do not walk on or near a motorway 2. Do not hitchhike on or near a motorway 3. Do not be a #SillySally."
Locals in the comments were left baffled by the incident.
One person said: "That looks like a live lane you’ve had to stop in there too, unbelievably dangerous, some people just have zero common sense."
Another added: "Daft. Nuff Said."
