LUDHIANA: Police in Ludhiana's Payal on Saturday evening arrested two accused for culpable homicide not amounting after their acquaintance died of suspected drug overdose.
The arrested accused were identified as around 31-year-old Dilpreet Singh and 29-year-old Rana, both of Maqsoodra village.
The complainant Karnail Singh of same village told cops that on Friday at around 6 pm, his son Sukhvir Singh went to a shrine to pay obeisance there. He added that when his son didn’t return home for some time he himself went to the shrine in the evening but he couldn’t find him there and returned home.
The complainant said that at around 7.45 pm, the accused came to his place with his son, who was staggering, placed in the middle of their motorcycle and he took care of his son. He added that the accused persons ran away after dropping his son.
Father of the deceased told cops that both the acquaintance had taken him from the shrine to Chankoia village and injected him with a large quantity of Chitta (drug).
He added that his son died at 6.30 am on Saturday after which he informed police.
On being informed, cops from Payal police station reached the spot and started probe into the matter.
Police later booked the accused under sections 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.
Investigating officer (IO) of the case, ASI Gurmit Singh said that the accused were arrested from near the village on Saturday evening. He added that the family thought that Sukhvir will recover so they didn’t take him to hospital and he died.
Police officials said that as per the family, the deceased had left drugs and was taking treatment for addiction. They added that deceased was aged around 29 years and would do farming and was unmarried.
