South Australia Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in Adelaide's north last month during which a man was allegedly bashed with a golf club.
A 59-year-old man was found lying unresponsive on Peacock Road at Elizabeth Downs with significant head injuries at about 11:30pm on April 22.
He was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
Yesterday police arrested a 40-year-old man from Globe Derby Park and charged him with aggravated serious criminal trespass and attempted murder.
He was remanded in custody after appearing the Elizabeth Magistrates Court earlier today.
Police believe the assault happened near 38 Peacock Road before moving to a location 50 metres south on the same road.
They allege it was there that the victim was assaulted numerous times by his attacker who was armed with a golf club.
Police said it was not clear whether the suspect and the victim were known to each other.
Today about 30 police and State Emergency Service members searched an area of Globe Derby Park bordered by Ryans Road, Whites Road, Daniel Street and a trotting track for evidence.
Police said a baseball cap was found during the search but it was not yet clear whether it was related to the investigation.
They are calling on anyone who may have found a golf club, a light coloured T-shirt with a black logo on the front, black pants, black shoes or a black baseball cap in or around Globe Derby Park to contact police.
They also want anyone who was in the following locations from 9:45pm until midnight on April 22 who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers:
- Peacock Road, Elizabeth Downs
- Atkinson Road, Elizabeth Downs
- Campbell Road, Elizabeth Downs
- Midway Road, Elizabeth Downs
- Hamblyn Road, Elizabeth Downs
- Gayland Road, Elizabeth Downs
- Daniel Road, Globe Derby Park
- Grayling Road, Globe Derby Park
- Alaba Crescent, Globe Derby Park
- General environs of Globe Derby Park
Police said after the alleged assault the accused man walked north along Atkinson Road, before heading west through an alleyway and then back onto Peacock Road.
They said he was last seen walking east on Campbell Road.
The accused man is scheduled to face court again in August.
