Police appeal for original footage allegedly showing Erling Haaland on phone behind wheel

Police are appealing for the person with the original footage allegedly showing Manchester City star Erling Haaland using his phone while driving to send it to police.

Footage was published in The Sun yesterday (March 28) appearing to show the 22-year-old striker with his smartphone in his hand whilst behind the wheel of his £300,000 Rolls-Royce. The footage allegedly shows Haaland driving on Oldham Road near to the Royal Mail sorting office out of the city centre, a short distance from the Etihad Stadium.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed yesterday that they were aware of the footage circulating online and have now issued an update appealing for whoever took the footage to come forward. It’s illegal to hold and use a phone, sat nav, tablet, or any device that can send or receive data, while driving or riding a motorcycle, and can result in six points on a licence and a fine.

A GMP spokesman said: "Greater Manchester Police is aware of images in wide circulation on social media, purporting to show an individual using a mobile phone whilst driving in Manchester.

"Investigating officers are seeking the original footage in order to ascertain the correct time, date and place of any offence. Once this has been received, officers will be able to determine an appropriate outcome."

According to the newspaper, the incident occurred on Wednesday, March 15, the day after he plundered five goals in City's 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

If you are the owner of this footage, or have other offences to report, you can make a report to GMP via the following reporting mechanism on GMP's website: https://www.gmp.police.uk/ro/report/rti/rti-beta-2.1/report-a-road-traffic-incident/.
