Police are appealing to the public for help identifying a man who was found dead in the River Mersey in Stockport.
Emergency services made the tragic discovery after being called to a concern for the welfare of a man in a stretch of the river, near to the town centre, at about 11.15am today (Sunday).
Officers have not been able to identify the man, who they believe was in his 40s.

He is described as a white male, wearing dark coloured walking trousers with a nylon belt, socks but no shoes. The man also had "distinctive tattoos" on his upper arm that say 'Rachel', another tattoo on his right lower arm of a bulldog and a Union Jack and another on the left side of his chest, which says 'Jodie', say police.
He was also carrying 'Golden Virginia Tobacco' when he was found.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death, Greater Manchester Police has confirmed.
A huge cordon was in place along Knightsbridge for several hours following the incident. Images showed police, firefighters and specialist water search teams working at the scene.
