Police appeal after pregnant woman loses unborn baby in crash

Police have released the image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a crash which resulted in a pregnant woman losing her unborn baby.

West Midlands Police are appealing for information regarding the serious collision, which involved a BMW and a Toyota on Cooks Lane in Solihull last year.

An 18-year-old man, who police said had been in the BMW, was previously arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Officers said the release of the information of the incident had been agreed by the woman and her family in a bid to raise awareness of how the collision had impacted their lives.

A police spokesperson said: “We’ve issued an image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with the collision who we believe may have been the driver of the BMW.

“We arrested an 18-year-old man from the BMW on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and he has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

“The woman and her family have agreed to release this private and sensitive information to show the impact the collision has had on their lives.”

Detective Constable Rachael Johnson added: “This has had a lasting impact on the family who were left devastated that day at the loss of their unborn baby.

“We have carried out CCTV enquiries and spoken to witnesses and our investigation continues.

“I would appeal directly to the suspect to do the right thing and get in touch with us. Anyone who has any information on his whereabouts or about the incident please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information should contact West Midlands Police via their website or by calling 101 quoting investigation number 20/471463/22.

Information can also be shared with Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
