Thursday, December 22, is the latest day in action for Operation Avro — an initiative by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to launch a specific crackdown on crime in one district per month. Today’s activity is focused on Tameside.
This morning, officers have already secured a result by ‘executing’ a warrant on a premises. It took an angle-grinder for officers to get in, but the results were startling.

“A series of warrants were executed this morning as part of Operation AVRO in Tameside,” a tweet from the force just after 9am said. “We were up early, angle grinding doors, [and] officers uncovered a cannabis farm and weapons including a shotgun and cartridges. Today is the day we seek out criminals across the whole of Tameside.”
Footage shared with the tweet showed cops taking power tools to a metal door, behind which was a huge cannabis farm. There were also shotgun cartridges in the address, and a firearm.
