Poirot legend David Suchet coming to Newcastle as TV icon announces tour

David Suchet is ready to tell stories from his illustrious acting career, including his stint as iconic TV detective Poirot, in a one man show that will arrive in Newcastle last year.

On the same day that he was spotted in one of the boxes at Wimbledon, the legendary star released details of a nationwide tour that will bring him to the Theatre Royal on February 18, 2024 and see him talk about the many roles he'd taken on, on both stage and screen over the years, most notably super sleuth Poirot.

David first became his famous television alias when the much loved crime drama launched in 1989, with Hercule Poirot first written about by author Agatha Christie in 1920, going onto feature in 33 novels, two plays and 51 short stories over the course of 55 years

Poirot's famous TV mysteries have included The ABC Murders, Peril at End House and Dead Man's Mirror, with the long running ITV drama coming to an end in 20132, 24 years after it started with Curtain: Poirot's Last Case,. for which David was joined by a cast that included Anne Reid, Hugh Fraser and Helen Baxendale.

The title of David's one man show is Poirot and More, A Retrospective., which will see him interviewed on stage by Geoffrey Wansell, the journalist and broadcaster, who was also the co-author of David's book Poirot & ME.

David last appeared on stage at Newcastle Theatre Royal in 2015 where he garnered rave reviews for his performance as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest. Talking about his tour, the 77-year-old said: "I am utterly delighted to be taking this show on the road after such a warm and wonderful reception to its first UK outing and West End run.

"Regional theatre is where my career began and was nurtured so I’m very much looking forward to sharing my stories, memories and favourite moments across the country again and visiting a number of new towns and cities.”
