Dundalk will go into Friday’s league action in second place in the table after being handed a points boost.
The FAI confirmed it has stripped Sligo Rovers of their 2-0 win over Dundalk on August 29 for fielding an ineligible player, Adam McDonnell.
Instead, Dundalk have been awarded a 3-0 victory that sees them leapfrog Derry City into second spot.

The FAI also confirmed that the postponed Shelbourne-St Pat’s game - when the Saints were delayed in Bulgaria after beating CSKA Sofia - will be rescheduled.
The independent disciplinary committee took the view that the game should be played, rather than handing Shelbourne a walkover.
After today’s development, Dundalk are now just three points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers, but have played two games more than the reigning champions.
Fifth-placed Sligo Rovers are docked the three points for that Showgrounds win and are just two points ahead of Bohemians.
In a statement, the Bit O’Red said: “Sligo Rovers are disappointed with the outcome of the FAI Disciplinary Control Unit hearing.
“While we understand and admit that an error was made on the club’s behalf, the issue was contributed to by the omission of the player’s name from two weekly suspension lists issued by the FAI to all clubs, which lead to confusion.
“As a club, we will move on from this while considering our options.
“Ambitious ground development plans which are progressing, we have had 200 new members in the past month, our community ethos remains at the forefront of the club with two fantastic Senior teams and six Academy teams which we are proud of and which will help overcome this disappointment.
“The club will take further legal advice on the outcome.”
Meanwhile, the league has yet to settle on a date for the rescheduled game between Shelbourne and St Pat’s.
The Dublin derby was due to take place at Tolka Park on Sunday, August 7 but did not go ahead after St Pat’s were delayed getting home from Bulgaria.
The club said that two charter flights from Sofia to Dublin fell through and players and staff returned home - in smaller groups - on scheduled flights.
Some of the group did not return to Dublin until late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, with the FAI calling off the game much to Shelbourne’s frustration.
