Manchester United’s players are set to be back in training this weekend as they gear up for their return to action after the international break.
Many of the players have taken the opportunity to head out on their holidays, some are on international duty, while others have been hard at work in preparation for their return to Carrington.
And when they make their way back to training, there could be some familiar names looking to get back in contention, with Paul Pogba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw all looking to prove their fitness before next week’s FA Cup clash with Middlesbrough.
Here’s the latest on the injury front for United’s players, and when they could make their returns:
Paul Pogba
The midfielder has been missing since suffering a thigh injury while out on international duty with France in November.
Pogba was expected to be out for another few weeks, but has been pictured back in training with his team-mates, suggesting he could be closer than first anticipated.
Ralf Rangnick backed that up, saying last week: "Hopefully after the international break, when we have the cup game against Middlesbrough and the away game at Burnley, I think he could be an option."
All the signs are that Pogba could be back immediately, and he’s been out in Dubai this week as he’s been put through his paces during his week off.
Possible return date: February 4
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
The full-back has been missing since the start of January, having been forced off during the defeat to Wolves.
Illness then ruled him out of the wins over Brentford and West Ham, although he is expected to return following the winter break.
"Hopefully, after the international break, he will be back for training,” Rangnick said last week.
Possible return date: February 4
Luke Shaw
The left-back has been missing since the win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup, and was forced to pull out of contention for the clash with Brentford before the winter break.
A hamstring problem has been the issue for the England international, and at the moment there isn’t a definite date as to when he will return.
Possible return date: February
Others: Jadon Sancho and Victor Lindelof, meanwhile, should both be back in contention when the players return from their break, having both missed the win over West Ham due to personal reasons. Eric Bailly could also be back in contention soon, after his native Ivory Coast exited the AFCON on penalties against Egypt.
