Poets invited to share work at pop-up exhibition in Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building

Budding poets will this weekend have a chance to write and share new spoken word pieces inspired by Meet Me At The River, the new exhibition at Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building (MLK).

As part of the exhibition by Migrant artist Mutual Aid (MaMa) - the first in a series of pop-up exhibitions planned for the venue - artist, writer, and researcher Jennifer Verson will be facilitating a spoken word workshop on Saturday, April 30 between 1-4pm. The workshop is titled The First Poets, after the piece, written and performed by Jennifer Verson, which is the opening of the immersive soundscape.

It is inspired by The Last Poets’ Invocation, a track on the album Holy Terror, released in the 1990s. The Last Poets are groups of black musicians and poets, born from the American civil rights movement in the 1960s and considered to be the forefathers of hip-hop.
