Rapper PnB Rock talked about how “common” it is for hip-hop artists to get robbed, shortly before he was killed in a robbery.
PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Allen, died at age 30 after being shot Monday at a Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles restaurant in Los Angeles.
He told DJ Akademics in an interview this month, “I never got robbed, ever in my life. I ain’t going to say never, because I don’t like saying never. I’m not superstitious or nothing like that, but I haven’t been robbed.”
PnB Rock also told DJ Akademics about an incident in which he said he was followed by a car while with his girlfriend and daughter, saying rappers getting targeted in robberies is “so common.”
The fatal incident Monday involved a suspect demanding items including jewelry from PnB Rock before opening fire, police told The Los Angeles Times.
Authorities are investigating whether an Instagram post by the rapper’s girlfriend that tagged their location tipped off the suspect on where to find him.
“Wow.. this PNB Rock situation crazy,” DJ Akademics tweeted Monday. “I just did a interview with him a week ago where he detailed how someone tried to rob him in LA recently while he was out with his girlfriend and daughter. Now.. this.. smh. Pray for PNB Rock.”
The Philadelphia-born PnB Rock released two studio albums and was known for songs such as “I Like Girls” and “Middle Child.”
