Irish premier Micheál Martin has said a meeting with Prime Minister Andy Burnham is an opportunity to “inject further momentum” into the partnership between the two governments.
Mr Burnham will host Mr Martin at No 10 North on Friday, their first official visit since the Prime Minister took up office.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, the Taoiseach said it would reaffirm the “strength and importance of the relationship between our two countries”.
He said: “The immense potential of this bilateral relationship is recognised in, and being realised through, our UK-Ireland 2030 programme of strategic cooperation.
“This meeting is an opportunity to assess progress across the programme since the most recent UK-Ireland summit in Cork in March, and to inject further momentum into our partnership as we look ahead to the 2027 summit to be hosted by the UK.”
Mr Martin said they would also discuss Northern Ireland issues, including the joint framework on addressing the legacy of the Troubles.
He added: “We will also discuss how best to work in partnership to sustain the overall success of the Good Friday Agreement in all its parts in the time ahead.
“Our discussions will also cover EU and international issues, including Ireland’s current presidency of the Council of the EU and the next EU-UK Summit, and the situation in Ukraine, Gaza and the Middle East more broadly.”
